The kitchen manager is responsible for all aspects of a successful kitchen, including opening and closing operations, safety, inventory management, purchasing, and staff scheduling.

In a restaurant, the kitchen manager focuses on accounting, scheduling and other routine kitchen management tasks, leaving many of the supervisory duties to the sous chef. In a fast food or chain restaurant, the kitchen manager is responsible for the consistent production of standardized menu items, which must be produced according to a defined set of processes (and where creativity is not the issue).

The kitchen manager has the following responsibilities:

  • Keeping the kitchen organized and ready for daily operations, including the adequate stocking of necessary supplies.
  • Keeping all equipment and fixtures in good working order.
  • Enforcing all kitchen procedures and policies.
